Camp Shawu named after the most famous of the African elephants, the Magnificent Seven. 'Shawu bull' roamed the valley here for sixty years. With the longest tusks ever recorded in South Africa, Shawu commanded instinctive respect and admiration from all who gazed upon him. Those lucky enough to have encountered this awe-inspiring bull say he took your breath away. Camp Shawu aims to do the same.

This camp is situated in a 15,000 hectare private concession in South Africa's world-renowned Kruger National Park. Private decks overlooking the Mpanamana Dam, allow guests a priviledged view of game gathering to drink.

Explore Africa's wildlife in and around Camp Shawu. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile abound. You will return restored and rejuvenated - having absorbed the magical energy and spiritual presence inherent in the bush.
Camp Shawu, a satellite camp belonging to the Shishangeni Lodge, is situated in a 15,000ha private concession in the South-Eastern section of the world-renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The world-renowned Kruger National Park covers a large and diverse region of Southern Africa. Made up of nearly 2 million hectares the diversity of life forms is unrivalled. Bordering the Limpopo Province, Mpumalanga and Mozambique this reserve has recently opened it's borders to neighbouring reserves joining the Greater Limpopo Transfontier Park.

As the park covers such a large area it's terrain varies from lush sub tropical conditions in the south to the more arid grasslands towards the north. With such natural diversity it is no wonder that the park is home to such a variety of species of life. This impressive number of species include a variety of: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.
* Camp Shawu offers spacious lounge, splash pool, indoor dining area, outdoor dining area, hotel car park, security, coach parking, foreign exchange, weddings and baby sitting.

* Camp Shawu provides walking trails on request, where guests can experience a typical old-fashioned safari first-hand. Safaris in open four-wheel-drive vehicles are also available.

* Activities at Camp Shawu include game drives, bird watching and self drives into the area. Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles and lead by expert guides and trackers. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile plus a multitude of general game and over 450 bird species may be viewed from the comfort and safety of the open game drive vehicle.

* The professional armed rangers and trackers conduct all game drives ensuring that rare bird species and the more fascinating fauna and flora are not overlooked. The safaris depart just after sunrise each day in an open fully equipped vehicle. Tracking Africa's big game, the evening safari leaves after afternoon tea and continues into the night as the rare and elusive nocturnal species begin their night activities.
* Camp Shawu can accommodate 10 guests in 5 very large rooms overlooking the Mpanamana dam. All are luxuriously equipped with romantic ball and claw bath, sitting area facing open fireplace, ceiling fans and outside shower.

* A large verandah with reclining chairs and umbrella is the perfect spot from which to watch the game come down to drink.

* Facilities within rooms also include room safes, private patio, laundry service, shower, luggage rack, separate bath and shower.
